Import Canon XF100 MXF Files to FCP X-Convert MXF to Apple Prores for FCP X
I had been using FCP 7 and importing my MXF files from Canon XF100 to FCP 7 via Log and Capture function. Recently I just purchased FCP X. it doesn’t have a log and capture command. The reason I purchased was to use the Canon MXF plug in to import my MXF files from my Canon XF100. All the Apple site says is that Canon XF files are supported with 3rd party software – anyone knows how/where I can make this work?
My canon XF 100 records MXF files and saved them to CF card. I am using a Macbook Pro 17. Now Log and Capture function is missing in FCP X. MXF files just stay in my CF card and can not be imported to FCP X for editing. If I know FCP X has cancelled the ability to handle MXF files from Canon XF 100, I could not have bought it.
Doing lots of search online, I found some useful tips. Now I will share these information and let people who meet the same problem know how to import Canon XF 100 MXF files to FCP X.
Know how to find MXF files on CF card:
See the following picture, under the folder naming with the recording date, there is Content folder. Then CLIPS001 folder, under this folder you will many sub-directories.
Each directory contains each mxf and other related data information. Generally the whole structure is needed for some software.
Transcode canon MXF to Apple Prores:
It is recommended to use Aunsoft Video Converter for Mac as Aunsoft MXF to Apple Prores converter on Mac. That is the best canon MXF conversion tool I tried. Easy to use and only several clicks are needed to get Apple Prores from MXF files.
See the detailed operating steps:
- Click Add button to import Canon XF 100 MXF1080P HD videos to this Canon MXF to pro res converter on Mac.
- Select Final Cut Pro option in Format box and choose Apple Pro Res output for FCP X editing for 1080P MXF conversion.
- Click Convert button to transcode MXF HD 1080P videos to Apple Pro Res.
- Click Open folder to find the converted apple pro res MOV for FCP X.
After getting Apple Pro Res MOV files, then import them to FCP X via File -> Import-> Movies. Now it is time to complete your whole story in FCP X.
